Outdoor Learning

At Rhyl, we are passionate about the power and importance of outdoor learning. Class teachers often take their learning outside as part of their creative curriculum.

Our specialist outdoor learning teacher also runs weekly sessions in our award-winning Outdoor Classroom – a garden and food plot where children learn about the natural environment, explore new flavours and follow the process of growing food from plot to plate. We also keep bees at the local city farm and have run Forest School sessions for a select cohort of children

With the help of the children, we built a wood-fired oven on site for outdoor cookery sessions. The garden is also the location of our amazing new Rhyl Kitchen Classroom, our community teaching kitchen.

In their regular sessions in the Outdoor Classroom, pupils follow a unique plot-to-plate curriculum which was first developed here at Rhyl then rolled out nationwide by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation.

Rhyl has won a gold medal in both the good growing and curriculum awards in Camden In Bloom. We are an RHS Level 5 School and twice winners of the Greenest School in Camden Award.
